About Corktowns.com
The idea behind Corktowns.com began with our pilot site Mallowtown.com.
This first site was founded in 2004 with two mandates:
1. To provide a community resource for the people of Mallow
2. To provide an online business directory which would help local businesses, service providers and non-profit
organisations promote themselves to residents and visitors in the area
Mallowtown.com as thus far been a success and so we have begun to expand the idea to cover all of Cork City
and County. We have 24 community websites completed or under construction at this time.

Aims & Objectives
Our objective is to create a central online source of information for the general public of a town and its
surrounding town lands. In other words, to be a community and business hub on the internet where people can
find whatever it is they need to know. To achieve this objective we aim to publish and/or link up with as
many sources of information as possible as well as being one of those sources ourselves.
- We would like to link up with, provide contact details of and publish information by the
various community support services in the area.
- We will have a comprehensive online directory that provides business contact details and we
are currently carrying out sales work in that area.
- We publish up-coming course details submitted to us. This includes everything from swimming
lessons to evening woodwork classes to more formal long-term education courses.
- We are also currently encouraging people from the Sports, Entertainment and Historical areas of
the community to submit event details, event commentary, and related articles, etc. to us for publication
(e.g. sports events and results, pub entertainment/gig listings, historical re-enactments/walks/tours, etc.).
- We will publish anything of interest to the public, submitted to us by organisations or the
public themselves. (e.g. public opinion/social commentary, public messages re marriages, deaths, births,
etc., fund raisers, etc.)
Our ultimate goals are:
- To have a positive impact on community cohesion
- To have a positive impact on technological skill levels in the community
- To make enough money through directory listings and advertising to keep each site up and running
- To get to know, and succeed in, County Cork's business communities
